HEADWAY BRADFORD IN THE LOCAL PRESS

Help is at hand for injury victims
By Newsdesk
The launch of the Bradford branch of head injury support group, Headway, will take place at Bradford City Hall on Tuesday.

Headway Bradford is part of Headway UK, a national support group whose regional branches support victims of head injuries, their families and carers.

Chairman Julie Scott said: "In our experience there was no organisation in Bradford dedicated to the needs of the brain injured person, their carers or families, hence why we have formed this new branch of Headway."

All members of the group in Bradford have been personally affected, either as a partner, parent or sibling of a victim of brain injury.

The launch will include talks from experts in brain injury, including Rory O'Connor, a consultant in rehabilitation at Airedale Hospital, Steeton, Eileen Kennedy, consultant neuropsychologist at Airedale Hospital and Steve Angus, a social worker with Bingley Head Injury Team, who works with a number of brain injured people.

Headway help
By Telegraph & Argus
SIR - On behalf of Headway, Bradford, I would like to thank everyone who attended our launch in City Hall.

The turnout was remarkable. However, on a sad note, the invitations went out to every practice and hospital, and all consultants in and around the Bradford and Airedale area, but we only received one reply and that was to say they couldn't make it.

You will no doubt by now understand that brain injury comes very low on the list of priorities in the Bradford area.

Having a brain injury does not mean the people who sustain them, or their carers, are any less important in society.

What you can't see in a brain injured person is the memory loss, lack of understanding, frustration, lack of confidence, emotional problems, mood swings and isolation.

Brain injury is commonly mis-diagnosed as depression. People often suffer a genuine depression as a result of their brain injury but this can mask other underlying symptoms.

If you, or someone you know, have been affected by brain injury, Headway Bradford aims to give help and support to victims, their carers and families.
